16th Avenue👔 – Part 2

Kelsey’s Office

Kelsey plumps down into her swivel chair sinking into the comfort of the cool leather appreciating the peace and quiet around her. She exhales a soothing sigh. The sudden loud ringing of her office line immediately shatters her moment of serenity. She grabs the phone and places it to her ear.

Kelsey
Hello. Good morning.

Ashley
Hi, dear.

Ashley’s an average height young single female. Her glowing fair skin is the first thing you notice about her as well as her super trim waist line. Her outgoing and bubbly nature made her easily sociable. Calling her the office flirt wouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

Kelsey
Oh! Hi, Ash.

Ashley
How was your weekend?

Kelsey
Fine. Yours? Wait, lemme guess… another wedding?

Ashley
(giggles)
Of course. My Aunt’s husband’s sister’s cousin was getting married. So, I had to be there. I was on the train like usual.

Kelsey
You and weddings, ehn!
So, what’s up?

Ashley
I called to let you know Tucker will soon be up in your office.

Kelsey
Okay. Noted.

Ashley
When he comes, there should be no smiling, no small talk, no laughing. Just ‘good morning’ and ‘thank you’. Got it?

Kelsey
Ash, you’re insane. Congrats! You’re officially obsessed.

Ashley
I don’t care. Just do as I say. Okay?

Kelsey
(Rolls her eyes trying not to laugh)
Whatever you say, Ash.

(Enters Tucker)

Tucker is an average height young male, completely dark in complexion. He was easy on the eyes and, hence, a babe magnet. Unknown to him, he was also the center of Ashley’s universe… for the time being anyway.

(Tucker appears at Kelsey’s office door. Still on the phone, she motions for him to come in.)
Ashley
Kelsey, I’m serious. Just ‘good morning’ and ‘thank you’. In fact, don’t even say ‘thank you’. Just ‘good morning’.

(Tucker hands Kelsey a handful of reports while expressing a courteous smile. She remembered Ashley’s words and quietly mouthed ‘thank you’. He immediately turned and left.)

Ashley
So, I’ll call you back to find out how it goes.

Kelsey
He just left.

Ashley
Who just left?

Kelsey
Tucker just left.

Ashley
Ahan! So quick. What did he say?

Kelsey
He didn’t say a word. He just handed me some reports and left. Finish!

Ashley
(Smiles to herself)
So, he’s a good boy?! That’s good. I’m proud of him.

Kelsey
Do you know what they call “obsession”?
(Ashley laughs out loud)
You’re suffering from it.

Ashley
So, what’s time’s lunch?

Kelsey
Let’s make it 1pm. Ceteris paribus.

Ashley
Alright. Buh-bye

Kelsey drops the phone in time to find William Hartley standing there. He was leaning against the door frame with a smile even more mischievous than his usual. That scared her.

Kelsey
William!
(His smile broadened even wider.)
For what do I owe this visit – or should I say spying?
(She narrows her eyes at him suspiciously.)

William
(He makes his way around her table to her scanner attempting unsuccessfully to swallow his smile.)
What makes you think I’m spying?

Kelsey
Just that look of mischief on your face.

William
You caught me. So, what if I am spying? I noticed you’re just coming from the East wing. Who did you go see?

Kelsey
Ever heard of a guy named Walter? He wears great big recommended specs and he’s got the cutest smile. So, how’s Janet?
(Kelsey smiles to herself as his cheeks immediately flush up as he blushed so visibly. She knew that name could always help her flip the table on him.

William
(Smiling)
She’s fine.
So, how was your weekend?

Kelsey
Do you have any idea how many times I’ve answered that question within the last 15minutes?! Let’s just say, it was fine. How was yours?

William
Fine. It’s only 8:15am and my boss is already on my last nerve.
(He begins to scan his document)

Kelsey
(Lets out a short laugh)
Already? That’s pretty fast.

William
You don’t know Wilson. He’s talented like that.

Kelsey
You’re probably right. Or, perhaps, it could be that you easily get irritated.

William
Yeah, I think you’re right. Though, I think it’s that coupled with the fact that he knows how to push my buttons too.

Kelsey
I don’t dispute that at all.

William
I’m done. Have you sent it?
Kelsey
I’m on it.

William
Before I forget, Nicholson’s back from sabbatical. He called for an impromptu meeting first thing this morning.

Kelsey
Impromptu?! That doesn’t sound good.

William
It’s not. It has something to do with Women Daily dropping us and going for a major competitor.

Kelsey
I heard about that. I smell trouble.

William
Yeah and someone’s definitely gonna get it. I envision Nicholson’ red eye, lots of yelling and … some more yelling. I can’t wait.
(He rubs his palms together excitedly.)
And you know who manages the Women Daily account, right?

Kelsey
Oh no! Wilson.

William
Oh yes!
(Smiles eagerly)
I perceive Nicholson saying something along the line of… “Wilson, you’re fired”.
(Another mischievous smile)

Kelsey
You are vile.

William
Have you sent it yet?

Kelsey
(Fiddles  with her mouse for a second glancing at her computer screen)
Done!

William
Ciao!
(Smiles)

Kelsey
Later.

(He exits after replacing the smile on his face with a cold robotic expression. That made Kelsey laugh as she shook her head.)

  1. Kesley, you never cease to amaze me. Thought your new accounting runs would have taken this obsession away from you. Ash is still ash and her description will give her away any day any time. Looking forward to reading more. Well done.
